Take a look at:

http://ozrunways.com

The program is not ready for release at this stage, but the developer (Rowan Wilson) has an excellent track record with his NAIPS software.

Rowan says he has just got the ERSA running on his iPad and the result is awesome. He is working with Airservices to ensure the final result will be sanctioned by them.

Now if Rowan could get the AIP running on the iPad to save us the awful time-wasting updates, I'd run out and buy an iPad today. (I've laboured through over 40 time-wasting AIP updates in the past 10 years alone).

Peter, for some time I used to prepare a zipped copy of each release of the AIP book and post it on our web site. It could be used on any sort of computer; Mac, PC, Linux or even iPad. Nobody seemed to give a darn and there was some question raised that ASA would not like it so I stopped.

This is not an iPad issue.

Skip,

I wasn't aware you were doing that, I would have been a grateful user as I resent the waste of my time doing manual updates. I experimented with downloading the AIP but didn't possess the skills necessary to make it workable due to the file linking.

Although I wonder how would CASA have viewed the lack of a hard copy product in the aircraft?

I'm hoping Rowan might form a co-operative venture with Airservices to allow some of their publications to be available by subscription, giving us an up-to-date product at a cheaper price.

While the portability, screen size and legibility of an iPhone or iPad are excellent, there are a number of other similar products which might also be contenders. You probably know I'm a biased Apple fan, but I would think Apple's existing mechanism to allow convenient sale and distribution of publications might give them an edge in the marketing stakes.

But Peter there is something comforting about carrying the AIP around, akin to a Bible, when there is a renewal in the offing...

I must be slipping into Dinosaurentia as I cant study electronic versions, I like to underline, highlight and notate and if one doesnt use one's AIP then what's the use of having it?

If you think AIP is bad, subscribe to Jepps, Their updates are every 2 weeks or thereabouts

G'day All,

For a short time only I have made available some links to various documents for those that would like to try with an Ipad, notebook, laptop or other electronic viewing device. Feedback on the suitability, success or otherwise would be mose appreciated.

Like you Mike, I agree that there is something nice about a paper document. Civilisations over the year have gone from stone tablets which were clumsy and fragile to papyrus then impoved paper products and now we seem to be going back to tablets. That's progress :)

Here is what you will find in the CLOUD:
