This is a nice HD clip of some interesting Mooney cloud flying from a well known Mooney uploader in the USA. I think he has since moved on to a Pilatus.......well that was the news pre "GFC"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrrsxDNb ... re=related

And this well known clip has great visuals of a Mooney night flight over Melbourne ( lovely cityscape) ending in an ILS landing - the music is a bit odd, but after a while it seems to match the clip. The radio calls really add to the clip - nominate the HD option otherwise the clip quality is very poor.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qid3HBTZpOM

Heres a clip of a YCNK circuit that I made ( sorry , not a Mooney). The second landing was a better one - mild crosswind from the right. I forgot to press the High definition button when uploading unfortunately.

Hi Mark,

As an ex Arrow driver I enjoyed seeing your circuit. You fly the Arrow well. Its a good honest aeroplane.

I noticed the yellow flashing light - is that because the back up gear extender was in over-ride? (It's 20 years since I last flew one!) We always had the back up gear system operating so never had to over-ride the system.

I used to do short field takeoffs by pulling on two stages of flap at 55Kts and the Arrow would take off effortlessly. In the end I did all takeoffs with two stages of flap. Have you tried that?

The video of the night flight at Melbourne was with Steven Gales UDD. Interesting he said he had two POB when there were three.

I like the way the Arrow flies. The aircraft I fly VH-HVX is 1977 model with about 4500 hours - its still flies very close to the manual performance figures.

I'll have to look in to the gear over - ride light.I bought the manual and did up all my lists for it.

I'm also getting a rating in a 182P (WarnerVale) at present but I must admit that despite its payload ( which was my only reason to want to get the rating) it feels like I'm flying a "truck".

The RAAF put on a nice show for my brief visit to YWLM to drop Mrs P off for the commute to Canberrra on Brindabella air.

A flight of F - 18s landing in quite rapid sequence - I uploaded it up to You - tube.

Here is a great clip of cockpit view and voice recording of a Nasa Sapce shuttle landing.

I guess they practiced so much they didnt really need a sterile cockpit procedure..I was surprised how much conversation was going on that was strictly unrelated to the task at hand

Carrier landing - very accurate flying

US airforce forced to fly very near a thunderstorm to avoid Iranian airspace - cockpit video - it gets quite intense in the middle of the clip - I think the aircraft must have been at some risk of breaking up

Hi Mark,

Did Bob Hoover die? - I've checked with Wikipedia and there is no mention of his demise.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Hoover

I saw him fly at Oshkosh in 1982. He flew both the Shrike Commander and a yellow Mustang. It was quite an emotional experience to see possibly the most gifted pilot to ever fly an aeroplane. He ended the airshow routine by climbing to 4,000ft, putting the Shrike into a VNE dive and shutting off both engines when abeam the airshow audience at a height of 20ft above the runway. The aircraft sounded like a jet from the aerodynamic noise from the airframe. He then converted the kinetic energy back into height and performed the end of the show with both engines shut off. This consisted of an eight point hesitation roll, flying downwind, landing and taxying into his parking slot - all with the engines feathered.

The FAA revoked Hoover's licence in the early 1990's, primarily because of his age. I don't remember how, but he ended up in Australia to fly at Launceston (I think) without a valid licence. I believe Russell Kelly was instrumental in Hoover being granted an Australian licence and he went on to fly here for a time. This was a victory for common sense, something which the FAA seemed to lack at the time. Russell might care to fill us in with the details.

Hi Mark and Peter,

Marvellous man. However, Mark, I am reminded of another Mark's (Twain) reaction to his alleged passing: "The report of my death is exaggerated."

Cheers,

Tony

Lovely Mooney shortfield approach to Johnstone Creek in Idaho USA - its worth looking at the various clips on youtube of approaches to this airport

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=relLqTbK ... re=related

---------------

same airport - this one is a Piper Saratoga with a bit more energy to lose and a longer float as a result

Thanks Mark,

That was amazing co-ordination by both the pilots and the tower.

Interesting also to hear the sound of the damaged jet engine after the bird strike. I wonder if the popping noise was due to compressor stall? Maybe it was just stuffed

A " pop pop pop " sound obviously audible over a very large area, and one you wouldnt want to hear on climb out.

F 16 dead stick landing after engine failure - prolonged glide.

I was interested in the pilots breathing rate - obviously he felt pressure but the radio calls after landing demonstrated he was functioning well

Two gems here

If you ever feel your hand flying skills are a bit rusty, heres an old guy who can help you get them up to speed....

-----------------------------

The second( is a great WW2 instructional video on how to fly a P-47 Thundeerbolt - you have to wait for the girl in the golfing gear to depart the scene however...

Galaxy takeoff at YBAS

I was there last week getting rated on the Saratoga with Cliff McCann. He sent me out to Coober Pedy and New Crown station to get some hours up, and Jack Chan got me to do a dead stick glide approach in to their 800 metre strip which was quite good fun!

The other great part was the flight over Kings Canyon and the Olgas with Mrs P and my father. We also enjoyed seeing the giant meteor site at Gosse's bluff in thye distance. I think I must be one of the few Australians who have ever seen the Olgas topped in green grass!

So that was why you stood us up at the Cessnock fly in ? We had a great night.

I hope that wasnt your video clip. If it was, better grab some Dilantin from the samples cupboard :)

Another succesful fly in marred by good weather and far too much good food, good wine and good company. It was terrible to be having so much fun. The Myalanta tabs took a beating on more than just one night. Mr Manzie did a fabulous job and a highlight for us all was Terry Casey's Knockden Park at Tenterfield.

Hi Mark,

Great video. Did you catch up with Paul B?

Sorry we couldn’t catch up at YCNK, but received a very warm welcome from Peter Roberts and Lindon.

No I was sad to miss meeting the Mooney Pilots, but I'm glad you all enjoyed Cessnock- apart from the very variable weather, it is a good airport.

I will actually be in Alice on the day the annual Casa safety night is on and will be there for the barbecue, so I might meet him then -now that I'm a member of Alice Springs flying club !

My dear wife down the back of the 6 seater Saratoga took the video. Its interesting that visually, Pine Gap is the first thing you see approaching YBAS from the south. Also took a ride out to Newcrown station ( who were very hospitable) and Coober Pedy.

Interesting approaches to PNG mountain airfields

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6uhR4cfngs

This is our recent holiday departure from YPKU Kununurra to Tindal in a Piper Saratoga - you can hear the line up call over the noise of the engines, and the view of the Ord is nice on the climb out
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jnh4CKoh5CM

This is a poor quality clip made by the Mrs of our approach into El Questro strip includiing base leg over Elquestro Homestead ( 2 nights there will give your credit card a thourough workover!)
The final leg of the circuit is the last half of the clip- I wasnt that happy with the flat approach but we were 85-90 Knots all the way. Its a 1500 ft agl circuit with quite high hills at the south eastern end.
